Society of Women Engineers is a catalyst for change in the way the
world works. During the celebration of our 60th anniversary, we reflect
on how the definition of success for women engineers has evolved as
women have advanced in engineering. SWE National President Nora Lin

![]() | Nora Lin has broad experience in engineering for 26 years in the defense industry. She is an employee of Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems for 16 years. She started her career as an Associated Scientific Programmer and later became a technical lead/manager in Software Engineering and led engineering teams with various sizes to develop relational database applications and real-time software for several military programs. She moved out of Software Engineering in 2001 and held the Independent Research and Development (IRAD) Coordinator position, where she managed $30+ million dollars of the IRAD funds and supported the establishment of technology development strategies for her company in the Rolling Meadows, Illinois location. She became the manager of Supportability Engineering in 2002 and has had the responsibility of providing staff to address reliability, maintainability and system safety requirements for all products at her site since. |
Nora is a Senior Life member
of SWE and is currently serving as the President of the Society of Women
Engineers (SWE). Prior to her current position, she has held various
SWE leadership positions at local, regional and national levels. Those
positions include Present-Elect, Director of Regions, Region H Governor,
Section Vitality Task Force Chair, SWE-Chicago Regional Section’s
President, etc. Nora was a recipient of Women
of Color in Technology Career Achievement Award in 2008. She also
received the Asian American Engineer of the Year Award in 2009.
In addition, she received numerous awards and recognitions from the
SWE local section and the Heartland Region. | |
