Room: Ice Harbor Meeting Room

Over the last years, there has been a push for liquid biofuels (ethanol) to replace conventional crude oil. Dr. Ahring will discuss her research which focuses on biofuels and how they can be developed and used in the future.

Dr. AhringDr. Birgitte Ahring, an internationally recognized microbiologist, joined Washington State University in August 2008 as director of the Bioproducts, Sciences, and Engineering Laboratory and as the Battelle Distinguished Professor.

Dr. Ahring received her Ph.D. in microbiology in 1986 from the University of Copenhagen and previously was at The Technical University of Denmark. She is an authority in the use of anaerobic bacteria – bacteria that exist in an oxygen-free environment – for production of biofuels and bioproducts.
