Outreach/ Mentoring Opportunities:
Charity Organizations
South
Ohio SWE is looking to get involved with a local charity to support our
community. If you are interested in helping get us start with one of
the following organizations, or have other volunteer ideas to share,
email Bianca at bianca.mccartt@ge.com
Whiz Kids: Teaching basic math to at-risk, low-income elementary
students
TEAM WORKS: Mentoring low-income women in job skills to support
financial self-sufficiency
Having the Courage to Change: Supporting women re-entering the
workforce and maintaining sobriety
Girls in Science Program
The Girls in Science Program is looking for people to donate their time
to a local outreach program:
We
are a group of women scientists who have created and successfully
implemented a "Girls in Science Program" in 20+ schools (over 700
girls!) in the past six years in Cincinnati. The program has
expanded
dramatically and this year alone we will have over 300 girls
participating! Therefore, we are soliciting your help to become a
"scientist" presenter volunteer in this highly successful
program. It
would require only a few hours of your time during the academic
year.
We use the term "scientist" to include any woman who uses science,
engineering, math, or technology on a daily basis in her job. She
may
hold an associates, bachelors, masters, or PhD in a related
field.
Graduate and mature undergraduates are welcome to present as well!
See
this form for more
information, contact info, and an
application form. This is a great way to be involved in outreach
to
middle school students and to share your passion and expertise in
engineering!
Mentornet
If you are
interested in having a mentee via e-mail who is currently in school,
now is the time to sign up on Mentornet.
