Job Description: Research and Development Engineer III Saint Gobain Performance Plastics Hoosick Falls, NY Job Goals: The engineer will utilize sound technical knowledge in a number of technology areas of materials, processes, and products to improve on/develop product performance to reduce costs, to maximize production, and to support new knowledge research. The engineer has responsibility for planning and executing research and experimental programs to support the continued technical leadership of Saint-Gobain PPL products. The incumbent pursues investigations that are complex in nature and require unique and innovative applications of technologies. Education, Skills and Requirements: • Master's Degree with thesis (preferred) in a related field (chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, polymer technology, or material science) plus 3-5 years of relevant experience in the area of specialty films and tapes (preferred), including knowledge of fluoropolymers, adhesives, coatings, and polymer processing (coating methods, extrusion, and lamination) • Or Bachelor's Degree in a related field plus 7+ years of relevant experience in the area of specialty films and tapes (preferred), including knowledge of fluoropolymers, adhesives, coatings, and polymer processing (coating methods, extrusion, and lamination) • Excellent written and oral communication, teamwork and team leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills • Able and available to travel to vendors, customers and plant sites around the globe on an as- needed basis Responsibilities: • The incumbent is expected to develop new product and processes to support the businesses of specialty films and tapes and manufacturing processes of coating methods, extrusion, and lamination using sound scientific practices, & ensuring the projects are completed in an efficient and comprehensive manner. • Manage additional small projects or production support as assigned based on technical service requests up to 25% of time. • Coordinate Stage/Gate reviews with project team and prepare for product launches • Provide supervision for up to 2 research associates • Six Sigma skills certification (Green Belt, Black Belt or knowledge of DOE, statistics) highly desired. • The incumbent frequently leads project team(s) on comprehensive project and cross functional global team(s). • Other areas for product and process development will be assigned as needed.
