volunteer
for a
Science Fest
that teaches
fifth and
sixth
graders
principles
of
engineering.

SWE-LV
members
contribute
to Holiday
Hope Chest,
which is a
national
project
adopted by
the
Volunteer
Center of
the Lehigh
Valley to
help the
less
fortunate
children
living in
the Lehigh
Valley.
SWE-LV
participates
through the
Community
Bike Works
program in
Allentown.

Certificates
of Merit
recognize
high school
women
graduating
with the
three
highest
grade point
averages in
math and
science.

● In 2001,
SWE-LV
initiated a
scholarship
program for
high school
senior women
who intend
to major in
engineering
at their
accredited
college or
university.
A one-time
grant of up
to $5,000
can be
awarded.
● SWE-LV
members
volunteer as
judges at
local and
regional
high school
science
fairs such
as
Pennsylvania
Junior
Academy of
Science and
the Lehigh
Valley
Science
Fair.
● SWE-LV
holds joint
meetings
with local
SWE college
sections--
Lafayette
College,
Lehigh
University
and Penn
State Lehigh
Valley/Berks
campus.

● Plant
tours are
arranged for
our members.
Past tours
have been to
Procter &
Gamble
(Mehoopany),
Goggle Works
(Reading)
and Just
Born
(Bethlehem).

Networking
among our
members and
with other
professional
societies
are arranged
through
happy hours
and joint
meetings.
● An annual
event is the
Engineers
Week banquet
held in
February.
Since the
1980 section
charter
date, two
SWE-LV
members have
been honored
as Young
Engineer of
the Year and
one has been
honored as
Engineer of
the Year by
the Lehigh
Valley
Engineering
Council.
