1. December Holiday Pot Luck and Kitting Party - Sunday, December 6, 2009 Who: Everyone is welcome, invite spouses, friends, neighbors -- anyone you think would like to come! What: SWE Holiday Pot Luck and Solar Competition Kitting Party When: Sunday, December 6th at 1pm. SWE will provide water and soda, please bring a dish to share and any "extra" beverages you might want. Where: Stacey's House -- address will be given out upon RSVP'ing Why: Socialize, celebrate the holiday season, and help prepare all of our Solar Competition orders to date so they can be shipped! RSVP to SWE by December 3rd (swe.tucson@gmail.com) 2. Region B Conference Registration REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! The 2010 Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Sonora Region Conference is coming to Phoenix!!! The Region Conference is a three-day professional development event that will provide women engineers across the Southwest and West Coast the opportunity to collaborate, communicate and connect with other women, create opportunities for growth and learn to overcome challenges. The 2010 SWE Region Conference will be held from January 29th to January 31st at the Sheraton Downtown Phoenix in Downtown Phoenix. Registered attendees will have access to: Two Keynote Events Networking Luncheon 20+ breakout sessions, workshops and presentations in five categories: Collegiate Professional Development Personal Development Technical SWE Related Career Fair that will be attended by companies from throughout the southwest and Southern California Please visit the conference website today to REGISTER!!! 3. SWE Tucson is on Facebook - Join our group! Join the SWE Tucson Facebook group to connect with fellow women engineers in Tucson. 4. SWE Tucson Raises Scholarships at 1st Annual Silent Auction On Saturday, November 14, 2009 SWE Tucson hosted their first Silent Auction to raise scholarships for the UofA Student SWE Section. Despite the rain that dampened the bid sheets and chilled the air, it did not dampen nor chill the energy and generosity of the guests. SWE Tucson was able to raise $700.00 for the students, which will be awarded in the spring. The Silent Auction was held in the welcoming and scenic patio of the Tohono Chul Tea Room. This great setting allowed guests to enjoy their friends and family while munching on savory tea sandwiches and desserts, and sipping their choice of tea, as well as get some early holiday shopping done as they made their way around the array of items available for auction. The idea for the event stemmed from fond memories of member Illya Ninichuck and the support she got through college from her local professional section in San Diego. "When planning for events this year I had two personal goals. One, find a way to grow the community's awareness of our section and two, raise scholarships for our local university's section. The idea of a silent auction with items being donated from local businesses and than use the money raised for scholarships seemed like a great way to reach both these goals, while having fun." Silent Auction attendees bid on some of the auction items.
