- Change oil every 3000-5000 miles
- Check the tire pressure in all tires including the spare tire
- Change air filter
- Don't do a high pressure radiator flush on an older car, it will knock the rust loose and you'll end up with a hole
- Ask your mechanic questions, ask them to show you the broken parts while still in the car, as well as to keep them afterwards
