Background

Kim Burton is an avionics and electrical systems engineer at Cessna Aircraft Company.

Kim joined Cessna in 2002 after graduating with a bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from Pittsburg State University. She has received a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Wichita State University. She is a certified Six Sigma greenbelt, and is currently working on her private pilot's license.

Why I love SWE

SWE has always surrounded me with a network of brilliant men and women I relate to on unique levels. I've enjoyed educational and leadership opportunities since college that I wouldn't have had without SWE. It's a group that makes me feel like part of the family. We work together to send the message to girls that they can be engineers, and that's very important to me.

SWE Experience

Kim has been a member of SWE since her days at Pittsburg State. She was president of her collegiate section in 2001. As a professional member, she is the webmaster for her local section and Region i. She has also co-chaired her section's Engineering Expo for two years in a row, which introduces kids to engineering.

Other Community Experience

Kim is a volunteer mentor for the Kansas BEST Robotics program, which introduces high school students to engineering and science through extra-curricular competition. She has participated in a number of Habitat for Humanity builds. She was chair of the Cessna Women's Informal Networking Group from 2007-2008.
