SECTION NEWS
Unfortunately our popular program over the past few years, Expanding Your Horizons for middle school age girls, will not be able to continue this year. We're looking into alternative programs that we can put our (wo)manpower behind and continue to inspire young girls into math and science fields. We'll keep you posted on the opportunities that are available. Thank you to everyone who has supported this program, the number of girls we've been able to reach out to has been fantastic, and it only happened because of the time and energy you provided to the program.
Reminder that for your holiday shopping, if you go through the igive website, SWE LV gets a portion of the proceeds! igive website Just type in "SWE" in the search box to find our section, it's easy, and it will help our section to continue to support local programs.
A new goal for 2009/2010 is to provide more oversight for the student sections. If you would like to get involved by being a point of contact for local University SWE sections, we need a few more volunteers! The time commitment isn't much - just a phone call or two to introduce yourself and then a few emails throughtout the year, or more if you feel that you want to be more involved in mentoring these future engineers.
Thank you and congratulations to Lisa Fenstermacher, who is our new membership chair. The focus for FY2010 is to increase overall membership and encourage members to be more active within the section. If you have ideas for how the section leadership can provide you with opportunities to get more involved, please contact us (see contacts page).
Bylaws have been approved for our section, E002. Section members voted on the revisions in July.
A quarterly report has been submitted to the Region Governor.
Scholarship applications will be available to download on November 30. How can SWE members help this program? Make a contribution! Ask your employer to contribute! Companies are much more likely to contribute to organizations that their employees support. The scholarship committee will be contacting members whose employers don't already donate to the program. Participation is optional, but we would greatly appreciate your help in expanding our contributor base this year.
Do you have female engineering colleagues who aren't part of SWE? Our section would like to hold membership lunches to inform your peers about SWE, its benefits, and why they should be a part of this great organization. Contact any of our section officers to set up a lunch presentation for your workplace.
