8/20/08 SWE Meeting Minutes:
Attendees: Elizabeth Richardson, Leslie Hugo, Marilynn Marshall, and Nadine Whitfield

1. Best time to meet: 80%-Sunday evening, next best: M-Th evening
2. What activities are you interested in: 100%-lunches, dinners, parties; 87%-technical tours; 87% Outdoor activities
3. What is the closest city to you: Most are closest to SLC, with one in Ogden and one in Provo
4. What is your price range for an activity: 61.5%- $10-20; 23.1%-$20-50
5. How long have you been a member? Average is under ten years, with one being a member for 33 and one just out of college
Added comments from surveys: have open officers meetings , are there any volunteering/mentoring opportunities.

September Activities:
1. Salt Lake Roasting Company, Sunday, September 7th at 7pm. 320 East 420 South, downtown SLC. This will be a meet a greet for the members, and will also go over mentoring opportunities, and plan the upcoming activities for October.
Possible October Events: LRCL or KCPW Radio Station tour, speakers, hike out at Antelope Island, Tour the Airport, icecream social in Provo, Lofthouse Cookie Tour in Ogden
2. Star Party, Saturday, September 20th, at dusk at Stansbury Park. Weather permitting, telescope observing will start at dusk, generally commencing as objects can be seen well enough to aim a telescope. In addition, a 30- to 45-minute program will be given. Free of charge and open to the public, no RSVP required so bring your family and friends. For more info on location visit: http://slas.us/maps/SPOCMAP.HTM
3. Red Butte Gardens, Red Butte Gardens Birding and Natural Area tour on Thursday September 25th, 7-8:30pm. Regular admission tickets are $6 & members are free. Bring your binoculars and join us for an evening walk when the Garden and natural area are full of wildlife activity. Bullock’s Oriole, Western Tanager, Downy Woodpecker and American Gold Finch are just some of the birds you are likely to see. Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Meet in Visitor Center courtyard. Arline Sant, Red Butte Garden Naturalist Volunteer. No registration required. For more information- check out redbuttegarden.org or call 801-581-8454.

Collegiate Contacts: Leslie got in touch with the SWE facilitators at the U, Weber, SLCC, and BYU. BYU is very interested in working with the professional SWE group and would like to have more inter-collegiate events

Liz- post newsletter on craigslist and ksl in activities section
-Look into drafting a letter to HR departments of
tech companies to encourage membership and the advantages of SWE membership.
