1. Come Volunteer for Scout Day! Saturday, February 19, 2011 - 8:00am - 2:00pm Raytheon is holding its second annual Scout Day and is looking for SWE volunteers to help out. You do not have to be a Raytheon employee to volunteer and you can volunteer any time from 8:00am-2:00pm and lunch is included. Scout day is a one day program designed to raise our local scout's awareness of science and engineering. Contact our vice-president Maysa-Maria Peterson maysa@raytheon.com if you are interested in volunteering. Additional info about the event: All volunteers must be US Citizens and will be required to provide a valid driver's license in order to access the plant site. Please have driver's license available for security personnel in order to expedite access. Cars are subject to search. Please leave any questionable materials (e.g. alcohol, firearms) at home. Recording devices such as cameras, cell phones, IPods, Nintendo DS or variants are prohibited and must be left at home or in your vehicle. 2. The University of Arizona SWE Section- Engineers Week Activity - Monday, February 21, 2011 - 7:30pm - 10:00pm The University of Arizona SWE section will be holding the following event for E-week 2011. Sonoran Glass Art Academy Ornament Glass Blowing - Saturday, February 26, 2011 - 9:30am We have set a time to make our glass ornaments for those of us who purchased the Sonoran Glass Art Academy Groupon and anybody else who would like to participate. If you did not purchase the Groupon, the cost will be $45 to create an ornament. If you did purchase the Groupon, you MUST PRINT OUT YOUR GROUPON AND BRING IT WITH YOU for them to honor it. If you purchased the Groupon, but cannot make this time, you can call the Sonoran Glass Art Academy to set up your own time that is convenient for you. We may also do lunch afterwards for those interested- details on that to follow. Looking for Volunteers for SWE's Annual Solar Competition - Saturday, April 16, 2011 - 9:00am-3:00pm Volunteers are needed for SWE Tucson's annual Arizona Student Solar Competition held in conjunction with Tucson Earth Day Festival. This year's event will be held Saturday, April 16th at Reid Park from 9:00am to 3:00pm. We need help with the following: - Friday April 16th 6-7pm (2) volunteers with trucks to take things over to the site - Saturday April 17th 9-3pm set up, registration, kit sales, photographer, race master, judging, pit bosses, repair station mechanic, and tear down. E-mail: swe.tucson@gmail.com if you are interested in helping. 5. Carpooling for SWE Region B Conference - March 4-6, 2011 in Palm Springs, CA One of our members will be attending this conference. E-mail swe.tucson@gmail.com if you are also attending and would be interested in carpooling. 6. Making Scrapbook Pages for the SWE Region Conference SWE Tucson needs volunteers to help with our scrapbook pages for Region conference. The Sonora History Award theme will be “Outreach”, so hopefully you've been practicing your scrapbooking skills in preparation of this fun award!
