1. SWE Tucson Silent Auction and Afternoon Tea Fundraiser - Tohono Chul Park Tea Room, Saturday November 14th We only need to sell 10 more tickets to meet our fundraising goal!! SWE Tucson is hosting a Silent Auction and Afternoon Tea fundraiser event to raise money for female engineering students at the University of Arizona Student SWE Section. Tohono Chul Park Tea Room is a fun and natural setting to gather for this event. The holidays are just around the corner, and if you're like most of us you've just started to think about gifts for family and friends. This event is an excellent opportunity to get started early on your shopping, while relaxing with friends and enjoying the beauty of Tohono Chul Park. Choose from their vast list of tea offerings while munching on an assortment of tea sandwiches and sweets from their tasty afternoon tea menu. Some of the great items up for auction will be gift cards from Tohono Chul, Simply Dinners, and Saffron Restaurants. Other offerings will include a Massage Therapy Treatment, Mary Kay Gift Basket, Chiropratic Sessions, Framed to Perfection, and even a Weekend Stay for Two at the Hotel Arizona. Review of SWE National Conference A note from the SWE Tucson Treasurer and SWE National Conference attendee: Every year in the fall, SWE has its National Conference. This is an amazing event where people from all over the country, all over the world converge with one common interest -- SWE! If you have never been to a SWE Conference, you might be wondering, what is there to do? Would I get bored? How do I fill in the time when nothing is going on? Let me tell you, I am busy every minute from the time I get off the plane, until I wake up exhausted but exhilarated the morning after it is all over. As, you can see from the schedule from the 2009 Conference, there is so much going on that they can't get it all on one page -- they can't even get one day's events on one page! Just getting on a shuttle to get from the airport to my hotel, I always meet other SWE'sters going to their hotels. That is where it begins. Then, when I get there and check in, I get my SWE Conference bag and schedule. This is where I want to spend several hours looking at everything on the schedule and planning my days -- but there isn't time for that! Instead, I am usually off to have dinner with people I know from previous conferences, or people I have already just met. There is something for everyone at a conference: training classes where you can earn learning credits, panels that discuss every topic imaginable, awards banquets, and the career fair! And be sure to leave time to talk with all the people you will meet from other sections -- and other countries! It is an event everyone should experience, and once you have been to one, I bet you want to attend another! But don't worry that the next conference won't be for a year, the Region B conference is just around the corner! Check out more information on the Region B conference now! 3. December Holiday Pot Luck and Kitting Party - Sunday, December 6, 2009 Who: Everyone is welcome, invite spouses, friends, neighbors -- anyone you think would like to come! What: SWE Holiday Pot Luck and Solar Competition Kitting Party When: Sunday, December 6th at 1pm. SWE will provide water and soda, please bring a dish to share and any "extra" beverages you might want. Where: Stacey's House -- address will be given out upon RSVP'ing Why: Socialize, celebrate the holiday season, and help prepare all of our Solar Competition orders to date so they can be shipped! RSVP to SWE by December 3rd (swe.tucson@gmail.com) 4. The New Sonora Region Website - Check it out!!! After many months of work, the Region Website Committee has completed the new region website. Thanks to Kelly Sieler and the Region Website Committee for making this happen. Check out the new site and let us know your thoughts and comments. http://sweregionb.org/ 5. Region Senator Blog - Visit Now The Sonora Region Senators have taken the time to create a blog to keep the region membership updated on what the Senate is working on and issues they are addressing. Please pay a visit to the site. This is a very easy way to keep the communication flowing to the members. http://sonorasenate.wordpress.com/ 6. Join the Sonora Region B Community Have you joined the SWE Sonora Region B Community yet? The Sonora Region Community is a place to find information on upcoming region events, minutes from the region meetings, information on the region focus groups, and much more information. The community also offers a place to post discussions, ask questions, or take polls. To join the Sonora Region B Community, logon on to My Communities from www.swe.org. On the blue header titled My Communities, choose Manage Communities, choose Browse Communities S-Z, scroll down and click on the check box next to Sonora Region- B, then choose the join button. You will then be able to view all of the information for the Sonora Region.
