Holiday Party and Cookie Exchange - Thursday, December 15th

Do you like cookies? We certainly do, in fact we enjoyed last year's cookie party so much we're doing it again! Join SWE-AV on Thursday, December 15th at 6:30pm for our Holiday party and Cookie exchange. All are welcome -- bring a friend, spouse, or significant other! There will be good company, light appetizers, and snacks provided. Please bring a beverage of your choice. If you wish to participate in the cookie exchange, also bring 2-3 dozen cookies and a copy of the recipe (Assuming it's not a family secret. If you decide to bring Oreos, you can skip the recipe part). If you plan to attend, RSVP by Monday, December 12th to contact us. Feel free to email us with any questions! The party will be held at a private residence in Lancaster, directions will be emailed to all RSVPs.

This is also a great opportunity to meet new people and learn more about SWE in a fun and casual atmosphere, so if you know anyone who might be interested in SWE, please forward this invitation along to them.

K-12 Outreach - Volunteer to help with a Girl Scout event on Sat, Jan 21st

SWE-AV will be hosting an engineering outreach event for the Girl Scouts of the Greater LA area. We will be informing girls from 6th grade to 12th grade about different types of engineering and helping them with a hands-on activity. We will have the girls create Rube Goldberg machines with the goal of turning on a light bulb using different types of energy and about 10 different steps. We are looking for volunteers to speak to the girls about engineering and help them out with setting up the activity. The event will be January 21th from 9am-1pm in Lancaster near the JetHawks Stadium. If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering, please contact the SWE-AV Outreach Chair, Heather Gleason.

SWEeter Futures Outreach Program

Did you present to some middle school girls on what it means to be engineer? Have you helped students design paper airplanes or launch rockets? SWE is trying to keep track of what outreach everyone is accomplishing. Take this survey and answer just a handful of quick questions. There is a monetary award at the end of the year for the top three sections who have done the most outreach (per member), so make sure to get credit for all the great work you've done starting from July 2010 until now. Questions? Contact the SWE-AV Outreach Chair, Heather Gleason.
