The Car of Tomorrow
John J. Kasab, Ph.D., P.E.

Given the newly released proposed greenhouse gas and fuel economy rules from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), light duty vehicles will undergo a rapid transformation over the next 10-15 years. Ricardo Inc. provided technical input to EPA to inform their technical assessment of these proposed rules. Ricardo's approach was to apply its complex systems methodology that allows engineers to gain insight into non-linear interactions between various subsystems. This presentation will describe the technology roadmaps, methodology, and some results from the study.

A Senior and Life Member of SWE, John J. Kasab is Chief Engineer for Chemical Technology and Innovations at Ricardo, Inc. He joined Ricardo in 2003 and has contributed his expertise in chemical engineering and computational simulation to a number of projects. Project areas have included alternative fuels technology; emissions control system design and modeling; fuel cell system performance and development;and vehicle-level fuel consumption improvements. Dr Kasab leads teams of engineers from multiple locations on client projects and served as a project manager on several projects. He also regularly leads teams to prepare proposals for client programs.
