Roll Call and Quorum Verification Governor Andrea Stenberg welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced the Region officers and committee chairs in attendance. Secretary Diana Joch verified a quorum of 14 representatives in attendance. The attendance list, including representatives, nonvoting members of the Council, and others, is presented in Appendix A. Meeting Rules and Agenda Review The meeting was conducted under Roberts Rules of Order. The agenda was presented for review and discussion. A discussion regarding the region back account was added under new business; the discussion regarding the FY07 region conference was moved to new business. By general consent, the agenda was adopted as amended. Governor Report Andrea Stenberg presented her report. Several region committee positions are still open. Key activities that the governors have been involved in include training and conference calls, the roll out of the Society Strategic Plan, notification of proposed bylaws changes, and planning of business meetings for the national conference. Since the beginning of the fiscal year Andrea has also worked to collect and verify information for the region roster, filling region committee positions and collecting section reports and compiling and submitting governor reports. Activities still to be worked by the region leadership include working on a region newsletter, updating the region procedures and completion of the region strategic and tactical plans. Updated information was presented on the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003, the SWE region programming excellence award sponsored by IBM, and a description of the Wow! Thats Engineering? program and section participation application requirements provided. FY07 Section Report Due Dates: September 8, 2006 5 section reports received January 8, 2007 June 8, 2007 Action Item (Andrea Stenberg) contact Betty Shanahan about the use of list serves and e-blasts for region use and verify if they are CANSPAM compliant Treasurer Report Marge Inden presented her report. The current FY07 budget was reviewed. Action Item (Marge Inden) submit budget for posting on website and e-mail to region distribution list Region Committee Reports Bylaws and Procedures Only two regions have completed updating their bylaws E and H. Only three sections have completed updating their bylaws to the new template. The collegiate section bylaws template is being discussed and will be approved soon. Membership Andrea Stenberg presented a summary of the September membership reports. Four applications have been received for the membership committee chair position and are currently being evaluated. Those applicants not selected for the position will be asked about their interest in other open committee positions. Leadership Coaching Kelley Abele is newly appointed committee chair and is getting trained on her position. Ssu-wei Loh solicited candidates for the collegiate leadership coaches. Collegiate sections should contact Karen Roth for support. Website Diana Joch presented her report. The region website has been updated with contact information for all sections and officers for FY07. Documents from FY05 to FY07 have also been posted. All updates or suggestions should be sent directly to Diana. Nominating Naomi McAfee was unable to attend but will forward her report. Call for nominations Collegiate Activities Nes Robinson presented her report. During the collegiate meeting, Krystle Nagle presented details on the collegiate section awards. Last year we had a poor showing but are hoping to increase participation this year. The awards committee is looking to streamline application wording and submission requirements. There has been an increase in the number of collegiate sections in the region; this is mostly due to expansions by existing universities to include engineering in their programs and is a trend throughout the entire region. Multicultural No report was given. National Business Potential Mega Issues Motion(s) A summary of the two mega issue items discussed during the conference was given. The two mega issues discussed were the internationalization of SWE and support for small companies. Bylaws Proposals The listing of bylaws proposals to be voted on at the COR meeting was presented. SWEs new vision statement A summary of the process and progress on the new vision statement was given. A final discussion regarding the proposed new vision statement will be held on October 14, 2006 at 11:00 am CDT, just prior to the COR meeting. New Business Bank Account Marge Inden presented the results of her research into a opening a new bank account for the region in order to get a higher interest rate. Motion #3: Marge Inden made a motion to open a new account with Smith Barney. This will be the only region account. The account will have money market funds only; it will not be FDIC insured. The specific money market fund is selected by the treasurer. Region treasurer and region governor will be signatories on the account; both will receive statements (either electronically or via paper). Motion was seconded by Diana Joch. Motion was open for discussion. Motion approved. FY07 Region E Conference Andrea Stenberg presented an overview of the discussions regarding the 2007 region conference that have occurred so far. Talina Knox, Kate Cicchino, Margaret Lyons, and Shruthi Shankar also provided information and spoke in favor of the proposal by the NJIT collegiate and NJ professional sections. Lisa Walton offered assistance from the members of the Lehigh Valley section. Motion #4: Margaret Lyons made a motion for the NJIT collegiate and NJ professional sections to host the 2007 spring region conference in Newark, NJ on March 2-4, 2007. Motion was seconded by Nes Robinson. Motion was open for discussion. Motion approved. Good of the Order Andrea Stenberg thanked all of the FY06 officers and committee chairs for their work this past year. Margaret Lyons was recognized as being selected as a SWE Fellow.
