MISSION

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a non-profit educational service organization of engineering graduates, students in engineering curricula and corporations who support the following Mission Statement:

KEY ISSUES

Leadership - Provide opportunities for members to develop leadership and management skills to enable them to achieve the maximum potential and further their ability to attain increasingly important positions of responsibility

Education - Provide programs to encourage girls and women to engineering, and encourage members to attain high levels of achievement in their fields.

Visibility - Increase visibility of SWE and its programs to members, the technical community, and the general public.

Diversity - Develop programs to encourage and sustain increase participation in the fields of science and engineering reflective of our divers population.

Resources - Increase the Society's resources for the purpose of supporting high quality programs and services to meet its goals.

 


HISTORY

SWE was founded in 1950 and incorporated in 1952. The Society's national headquarters is located in Chicago, IL. SWE is a charter member of the American Associaton of Engineering Societies (AAES),and an affiliate of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).The Society has ten regions which include the 50 states, Puerto Rico, Saipan and Guam. Within the 10 regions there are 90 professional sections, 300 student sections and Members-At-Large.

 


 

REGION I HISTORY

Region i is known as the Square Root of -1 Region and includes Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Wyoming. The region includes 8 professional sections, 22 student sections and Members-at-Large.
