| SWE
Detroit is one of the largest SWE sections with over 300 members. The
Detroit area includes metropolitan Detroit and the surrounding
communities as far north as Saginaw, west as Lansing and Jackson, and
south as Toledo, Ohio. The primary employers of SWE Detroit members are
Ford (25%), General Motors (12%) and Chrysler (11%). In addition,
SWE Detroit has approximately 70 members who are the only SWE member at their company. |
Membership is responsible for maintaining and increasing the membership
of SWE Detroit. There are several programs in place to accomplish these
goals. Feel free to contact the VP of Membership, for more information
or a membership application.
Joining is easy! Go to swe.org/join on our national site. |

Monthly Meetings
The meeting planning committee plans monthly meetings for the months of
September through April (excluding December). Meeting locations vary
month to month for the convenience of our members. Meetings generally
are on weeknights, include dinner, and include a speaker or panelists
on topics ranging from diversity to technical issues to tours of area
companies. Meetings are open to the public, although a discounted rate
is given to SWE members.
Special Events
SWE Detroit holds two annual special events. In December the Annual
Multicultural Holiday Party is held to celebrate the diversity of our
membership. In May we end our year with the Annual Spring Awards
Banquet.
Special Interest Groups at Local Companies
Chrysler, Ford and General Motors currently have SIG's in place.
These SIG's organize meetings and luncheons within their companies and
allow for extra networking among SWE members.
Newsletter
One great benefit of membership is the monthly newsletter. See last month’s newsletter.
Civic Involvement
Get involved in the community! Through Civic affairs, you can donate
various items to local shelters and charities; you can spend some time
in a soup kitchen, cleaning our highways, refurbishing housing or
running/walking for a cause! Some of the charities we are working with
this year include My Sister’s Closet, Habitat for Humanity,
Adopt-A-Highway, Toys for Tots, Race for the Cure, My Sister’s Place,
the Oakland County Food Bank, the Michigan Humane Society and other.
