Student Section Mentoring Opportunities
One of the goals of our SWE section is to bridge the gap between student and professional life, and we need your help! Each colege and university with a SWE chapter needs a Section Counselor. A Section Counselor is paired witha SWE chapter to offer advice, help set up lectures and field trips or anything that the chapter needs to be successful. If you are a recent graduate or are interested in becomming more involved with SWE, please email us.
Maintaining a Charter in Good Standing with SWE National
The collegiate section must have at least 10 paid SWE members.
At least 50% of the section's paid membership must be women majoring in engineering or engineering technology.
The collegiate section must operate under the guidance of a SWE Counselor, who must be a paid SWE professional member.
Annual and financial reports must be submitted on time.
The collegiate section may have only one president at a time.
Note: Sections must also be in good standing with their respected College, these requirements can be found by asking the college. Normally you must register before the start of the Fall Semester and even better if this can be done right after elections in May (before summer break)
A SWE Section will become deactivated if HQ or their SWE Region has not received annual or financial reports for at least two years, have no counselor on record with HQ, do not have 10 paid members on record with HQ, have not started bylaws updates, and have not reported a treasurer or presidents name to HQ in at least two years.

- Report #3 - May 18, 2011
Collegiate Presidents should complete this report and email it to your Regional Collegiate Coordinators by the appropriate due date.
Attach any additional section or member success oriented items (i.e. calendar events, programs, pamphlets, news articles, etc.) that you would like to share.
E Postcard Requirement
All SWE sections MUST file an e-Postcard or full IRS Form 990 by November 15, 2010 and annually thereafter to prevent loss of tax-exempt status.
Each collegiate section needs an independent EIN from their university or any other entity’s EIN, and each collegiate section needs to electronically file at minimum an annual “e-Postcard” (IRS Form 990-N) with the IRS.
Note: if your collegiate section’s gross receipts exceed $25,000 in a year (which is often the case if they have hosted a regional conference); they will need to file a full IRS Form 990 form in lieu of the “e-Postcard” requirement.
