Benefits of Membership
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is an international educational
organization with over 16,000 members. The membership includes anyone
interested in supporting women in engineering and the sciences.
Men and women play an active role in SWE, as well as students and
professionals.
Members directly benefit from the networking provided to all members
of SWE. The organization is a resource for jobs as well as ways
to enhance professional development. The National Convention and
Student Conference held each year in a different city and provides
educational workshops for conference participants that provide technical
as well as career enhancing training.
SWE provides excellent leadership training in local Sections as
well as on the Region and National levels. Members are encouraged
to seek office including participating on committees on all levels.
Many of SWE's leaders found the organization an ideal place to learn
leadership skills providing a safe environment to make mistakes
while learning from them. Mentors are available who naturally assist
fellow members.
SWE encourages young girls to pursue math and science courses from
the lower grades through high school, and provides programs to educate
parents, teachers, and guidance counselors on the benefits of encouraging
young women to consider careers in technical fields. Members find
gratification in outreach programs on the local as well as national
levels that address this issue.
