Call for Volunteers

Speed Networking Night at Columbia University. The SWE-Columbia student chapter is excited to host the first annual Speed Networking event on February 17, 2010. In collaboration
with other undergraduate engineering groups on campus, this event will bring engineering alumni, professionals and faculty face-to-face with undergraduate students. If you are interested

Girl Scout Engineering Fair:  Please join SWE-NY and the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) at the University of Stony Brook at the Girl Scout Engineering Fair on Saturday, March 13, 2010.  The Girl Scout Engineering Fair is an event for Suffolk Cadette Girl Scouts to learn about engineering through hands on activities.  Volunteers are needed in a variety of facets.  If you are interested in becoming more involved, please contact Laureen Pellegrino at lahjsp13@optonline.net

Cool Women, Hot Jobs 2010: We need women to ignite a spark in students at our annual career day events at The Young Women’s Leadership Schools in New York City and Philadelphia. Volunteers will be asked to speak in classroom and fair settings about: daily activities; responsibilities and challenges; the education and skills needed to succeed; career paths, and interesting aspects about their professions. All events are held between about 8:00 – 12:00 a.m Dates are as Follow: March 16: Jamaica, Queens -March 19: Astoria, Queens - March 23: Brooklyn - March 25: East Harlem - May 20: Philadelphia, please e-mail tgoulet@ywlnetwork.org

Section Counselor: One of the goals of our SWE section is to bridge the gap between student and professional life, and we need your help. Each college and university with a SWE chapter needs a Section Counselor. A Section Counselor is paired with a SWE chapter to offer advice, help set up lectures and field trips or anything that the chapter needs to be successful. If you are a recent graduate or are interested in becoming more involved in SWE, please e-mail Student Section Liaison.


SWE Region E (Mid-Atlantic) Conference

Save the Date for the SWE Region E (Mid-Atlantic) Conference, March 19-21, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania!  

The Philadelphia professional section and the University of Pennsylvania student section of SWE will be co-hosting the 2010 Region E Conference.  Events will take place on the University of Pennsylvania campus and at the Sheraton University City Hotel.  The hosting sections are very excited to be holding this year’s conference in Philadelphia - the city where the foundations of our country were built as well as one of the charter sections of SWE.  In celebration of SWE’s 60th anniversary, the conference theme will be SWE@60: A Strong Foundation for Engineering Success.  

Speakers will include national President-Elect Siddika Demir.  The conference will also feature walking tours of the beautiful city of Philadelphia, and opportunities to volunteer at the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) conference occurring the same weekend.
