Opening Engineering to Girls

So you're wondering about becoming an engineer--good for you!  Engineering is an exciting field that creates new innovations every day.  Cars, roads, airplanes, medical devices such as joint implants, and even the computer you are using right now are all feats of engineering.

I developed this website to help girls who are interested in math and science explore this often over looked career.  This Web site is the result of my search for information about engineering careers.  It contains links to Web sites to help you explore engineering as well as the story of my own pursuit of engineering and information on summer programs that would give you hands-on experience in engineering projects.

Materials Science  Girls like us who are passionate about math and science have found that engineering combines these technical areas along with social and cultural issues, to create a career that will generate a good paycheck and evolve with the changing times.  But I do remember the hostility from some of my peers, starting in the third grade, and the disbelief of some of my teachers.  Today one-third of my advanced engineering class and one-half of my AP Physics class are girls.  So even if you encounter some resistance now, be patient and you can succeed!
