Message from Our President

Dear Southeast Florida Section,

I am very excited about our packed calendar for the coming months. We have already had some great events like the Region D Leadership Summit in July and the Miami Airport tour in August. The best way to stay informed about future activities is to join our weekly email list. Send me an email if you are interested and I will add you to the list. You can also look for us on Facebook and Linked in. Links to these sites can be found on our home page.

I have had several recent requests for events in Broward and Dade Counties. I am excited to report that we have a couple of activities in the works, but I need support from members in those areas to make more events possible. If you live in Broward or Dade County and would be willing to assist, please send me an email.

Laura Kerr has been doing a fantastic job planning several Girl Scout activities. On September 19 and 25, we held our first GS Badge Workshops in Jupiter and Boca Raton. Another Girl Scout Event, the STEM Grant Eco-Action Interest Project, is scheduled for October 3 and will be held at the Loxahatchee River Center in Jupiter. We have already reached the capacity for this event of 100 girls! Thank you to all who have volunteered to assist at these events. This is a great way to get young girls excited about science and engineering!

Tinu Pena has been working with the National Society of Black Engineers to plan our annual outreach event, Engineering Family Fun Day. This event will take place on November 14 at Howard Park in West Palm Beach. We can always use extra volunteers Please contact Tinu if you are interested in helping.

Thanks to Laura Vingerhoeds for organizing our first Section meeting on September 23 with guest speaker Charlie Geer of Kimley-Horn and Associates. On October 27, we will hold our next Section meeting with two guest speakers from Florida Power and Light. This meeting will be held at Duffy’s in the Villages. Further details will be available soon.
