TECHNICAL PRESENTATION COMPETITION

Practice: Tuesday, 1:00pm –5:00pm

Competition: Wednesday, 8:00am – 12:00noon

Casual attire for practice, semi-formal suit or dress for competition

This annual contest is open to all undergraduate members. Region contestants are selected on the quality of their written papers. Through the generosity of our sponsors, winners receive complimentary travel to the National Convention and cash prizes of $1500, $1000 and $750 for first, second and third place winners, respectively. A schedule of presentation times for each student will be posted during the competition.

BOEING TEAM TECH

Practice: Tuesday, 1:00pm –5:00pm

Competition: Wednesday, 8:00am – 12:00noon

The Team Tech Competition was introduced in 1992 by The Boeing Company to emphasize the key role of teamwork and interface with industry. Team presenters receive free airfare to the convention where they compete for prizes of $2400 for first place and $1200 for second place. All students are invited to attend the practice and competition sessions to learn how to prepare for this competition or support your school’s team. These presentations are challenging and represent the work that can be accomplished when people strive to work together.

Did your Section do something great this year? Have you come up with a new way to recruit new members or keep current ones, or a great new fund-raiser? Cash prizes will be awarded to the individual and region winners at the Student Awards

STUDENT CONFERENCE OPENING LUNCH SPEAKER

Mary Peters

Mary Peters is the Director of the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). She was appointed Director by Governor Jane Hull in March 1998 and is the first female director of the agency. ADOT is responsible for over 6,100 miles of roadway across the state, intermodal transportation planning, aeronautics functions including registration of the aircraft and operating the Grand Canyon Airport, in addition to all motor vehicle functions. The agency is organized into three primary divisions including Intermodal, Motor Vehicle and Transportation Services.

Along with leading ADOT’s more than 4800 employees, Mary is actively involved in state legislative activities and transportation issues throughout Arizona and the nation. Mary and her staff are strong participants in transportation associations such as AASHTO and WASHTO in addition to quality-based associations like NQI.

Ms. Peters was selected as a Toll Fellow by the Council of State Governments and served as class president in 1994. She was named the 1994 Women’s Transportation Seminar Woman of the year, was profiled by the Arizona Business Journal in 1996 and recognized as one of the Top 100 Who’s Who of Arizona Women in Business. In additional to her transportation-related activities, Mary served as the President of the Grand Canyon State Employees Federal Credit Union, is a Judge for the Arizona Quality Awards (Malcom Baldridge based awards), is a member of the University of Phoenix Alumni Advisory Council, and was a member of the Governor’s Family Friendly Task Force. She chaired the Governor’s High Speed Rail Task Force and served as a member of the Governor’s task forces on Alternative Transportation Systems and Air Quality.

Mary’s passions include setting a strong vision for the agency backed by a comprehensive strategic plan, objectives and goals. She is a fervent believer in servant-leadership styles of management and actively trains senior and middle managers in leadership. A thirteen-year employee of ADOT, Mary holds a bachelor’s degree in management and is a fourth-generation native Arizonan. She and her family reside in Peoria, Arizona.
