The Phoenix and Tucson Sections of the Society of Women Engineers are pleased to welcome the attendees of the 1999 National Convention and Student Conference to Phoenix, Arizona, the Valley of the Sun. This year’s technical programs, seminars, workshops and tours will provide valuable information to enhance your careers and education while the social events will expose you to the beauty and culture of the desert Southwest.

On the Edge of Technology, Leadership & Diversity, the theme of this year’s event typifies the great State of Arizona. See the Technology in our "leading edge" companies such as AlliedSignal, Boeing, Honeywell, Intel, Motorola and Raytheon. Experience the Leadership of our three state universities educating thousands of students each year in optics, astronomy, manufacturing methods, management, engineering and construction. Enjoy the diversity of our Native American and Mexican cultures, terrain ranging from low desert cactus to high country pines and of course, the Grand Canyon.

The Phoenix Civic Plaza, site of this year’s Convention/Conference, is located in the heart of downtown Phoenix. Conveniently located within a three-block radius is the Hyatt Regency Phoenix, the host hotel; America West Arena, home of the Phoenix Mercury and Phoenix Suns basketball teams; Bank One Ball Park, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team; Arizona Science Center; Phoenix Symphony Hall; Herberger Theater, and dozens of restaurants and shops downtown and valleywide.
