STUDENT CONFERENCE OPENING LUNCH

The Student Conference kicks off with this excellent networking opportunity for students and professionals. Attendees will be encouraged to interact through ice breakers and other intermingling techniques. The lunch will feature an address by Dr. John Lienhard, author and presenter of National Public Radio's program The Engines of Our Ingenuity and professor of Mechanical Engineering and History at the University of Houston. Dr. Lienhard received the ASME Ralph Coates Roe Award for contributions to the public's understanding of technology and the 1991 Portrait Division Award from the American Women in Radio and Television for The Engines of Our Ingenuity. Dr. Lienhard is truly an interesting and creative man.
In addition, a brief convention overview will be presented highlighting items of interest and recommended sessions for students.

STUDENT IDEAS EXCHANGE & DINNER

Tired of having the same meeting format, icebreakers, and fundraisers? Attend the Student Ideas Exchange & Dinner to hear what the SWE Student Section Winners have been doing that makes them so successful. The Student Ideas Exchange gives all participating schools a chance to share ideas on how to improve their societies.
During the dinner the student sections that have received top awards will describe their ideas in a particular area of expertise. Breakout rooms after the dinner will give all participants the opportunity to share ideas covering diverse topics with other students from SWE Student Sections across the country. Each school, big or small, will benefit from learning what made the presenters' sections successful.

BOEING TEAM TECH COMPETITION
Wednesday, 12:00noon–4:00pm
The Team Tech Competition was introduced in 1992 by the Boeing Company to emphasize the key role of teamwork and interface with industry. Team presenters receive free airfare to the convention where they compete for prizes of $2400 for first place and $1200 for second place. Competing teams range from four to twelve students and represent a minimum of three engineering disciplines. They submit an initial, interim, and final report on a project of their own choosing. In addition, each team works with an Industrial Advisor, who is responsible for ongoing evaluation of the team's progress.

STUDENT TECHNICAL PRESENTATION COMPETITION

This annual contest is open to all undergraduate members. Regional contestants are selected on the quality of their written papers. Through the generosity of our sponsors, winners receive complimentary travel to the National Convention and cash prizes of $1500, $1000, and $750 for first, second, and third place national winners, respectively.

MOBIL SME BOWL COMPETITION
Friday, 1:00–4:00pm
Mobil's Subject Matter Expert (SME) Bowl is a contest with a "College Bowl" atmosphere. Student teams representing the ten SWE regions compete to answer engineering questions. Come test your talent or cheer on your region. Sign-ups for the teams take place during the Student Regional Meetings. Winners will receive cash prizes.

IT'S A SMALL W.O.R.L.D.
(Formerly "Take A Student To Dinner")

No charge for students
Building off of previous conventions' "Take A Student To Dinner", It's A Small W.O.R.L.D. offers Working Opportunities, Relationships to Last, and Diversity to corporate representatives, professionals, and students. Throughout dinner at the Convention Center, time will be provided for participants to begin building networking or mentoring relationships which may lead to working opportunities.
Students may sign up to meet corporate representatives and professionals from particular companies or disciplines. Corporate representatives and professionals may request to meet students from particular disciplines. Matches will be made prior to, and throughout, the convention. Participants will be notified of the match-ups prior to the dinner.
Corporate representatives and professionals are invited to sponsor one or more students to this specially planned dinner right in the Convention Center. (No maps or cars will be needed.) For more information, see below and check out Student Sponsorship.

How do I sign up for It's A Small W.O.R.L.D.???
On the Convention Registration Form
Corporate representatives and professionals interested should mark appropriately
on the Convention Registration Form. The cost is $40 per sponsor plus $40 per
student sponsorship. Students interested in participating need only mark
"student attendee" at no cost. It is necessary to mark appropriately so that
you are sent a registration and matching form for the event with your convention
registration confirmation. The information on this form will be the basis for
assigning partnerships. The advantage of early registration is priority matching
as well as notification of your partner! So don't delay!
Select It's A Small W.O.R.L.D. on the Convention Registration Form.
Then, return the event registration and matching form as quickly as possible.
At Convention
Check in at the It's A Small W.O.R.L.D. table in the
registration area at the Convention Center to confirm your match or to register.
Participants will be notified of assigned partnerships prior to the dinner.
Registration for this event will take place through noon Thursday, June 18.
Note
All students and professionals or exhibitors are not guaranteed to be
matched for this event. The Student Conference Committee will do its best to
make all matches. However, matching everyone is dependent upon an equal number
of students and professionals or exhibitors signing up for the event.

Eligible Students
The Graduate Record Examinations Program (GRE®) is pilot testing questions for a new test in mathematical reasoning. You may participate in this study only once. Payment for taking the test will be $125. If you participate more than once, you will receive payment for your first test session only. Checks for $125 will be issued approximately four weeks after the data are received at Educational Testing Service (ETS®).

to provide the following information: name, social security number, mailing address, phone
number, email address, overall GPA, undergraduate major and whether you have taken the GRE®
General Test or when you plan to take it.
