Oregon is no stranger to
flooding, landslides, forest fires, and getting prepared for “the big
one”: a major off-shore earthquake that will cause a tsunami. With the
O.H. Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory and other research being
conducted at Oregon State University, Corvallis is a great location for
the 2011 Region J Conference, Engineering Solutions to
Disasters. Session and keynote speakers will focus on how
engineering is used to prepare for disasters, minimize damages, develop
early warning systems, and clean up in the aftermath of natural and
man-made disasters. Students and professionals will also benefit from
sessions focusing on how to avoid and prepare for various career
disasters.
