ORDER OF THE ENGINEER  (Sign-up deadline March 27th)
The Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States in 1970 to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer. The Obligation of the Order of the Engineer is similar to the Canadian "Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer" initiated there in 1926.

Simply stated, The Order of the Engineer is a ring ceremony in which engineers meeting the solemn obligation take an oath called the "Obligation of an Engineer" to promise to uphold the high standards of the engineering profession. They are also given a stainless steel ring to be worn on the fifth finger of the working hand identifying their profession and obligation to other engineers and the public.

Any engineer is eligible for induction if he or she has graduated from an ABET-accredited engineering program or holds a license as a Professional Engineer. Students enrolled in ABET-accredited engineering degree programs are eligible if they are within two academic terms of graduation.

The engineer's oath:

I am an Engineer, in my profession I take deep pride. To it I owe solemn obligations.

Since the Stone Age, human progress has been spurred by the engineering genius. Engineers have made usable Nature's vast resources of material and energy for Humanity's [Mankind's] benefit. Engineers have vitalized and turned to practical use the principles of science and the means of technology. Were it not for this heritage of accumulated experience, my efforts would be feeble.

As an Engineer, I pledge to practice integrity and fair dealing, tolerance and respect, and to uphold devotion to the standards and the dignity of my profession, conscious always that my skill carries with it the obligation to serve humanity by making the best use of Earth's precious wealth.

As an Engineer, in humility and with the need for Divine guidance,] I shall participate in none but honest enterprises. When needed, my skill and knowledge shall be given without reservation for the public good. In the performance of duty and in fidelity to my profession, I shall give the utmost.

This tour will leave the Silver Cloud Inn at approximately 12:15 PM on Friday, April 17th for the 1 PM tour, which is an hour and a half.  The return time is approximately 3 PM.  The total cost is $30.  Register for this tour on the Registration page.

BOEING TOUR
Come take a tour of one of the Boeing Factories in the Pacific Northwest. Get a guided walking tour of the 737 plant in Renton. Here you will see the final assembly of the 737 and the moving line. The tour is open to all participants and is limited at 30 people. You will need to provide a passport for access into the factory.
