Notable Notes:
Review: At the
October 2007
Region J
meeting, the
section
representatives
voted via motion
to retain the
section
presidents (or
their designated
alternates) as
the nominating
committee for
the Region J
officers slate.
This year, we
also elect a
region governor.
Region
Governor
Election
We are dealing
with a time
sensitive issue
per the bylaws
(noted below) as
the region
governor's
ballot appears
on the national
ballot. Nora
advised us in
the RG meeting
last week we
should stick to
the SWE schedule
as it's
expensive to run
an election
outside the
national ballot
process,
as another
region learned.
Region Officer
Election
This election
must take place
before June 30,
ideally now so
we can institute
a transition and
have these names
in before the
election. The
positions open
are lieutenant
governor,
secretary,
treasurer, and
nominating
committee
representative.
I recommend
starting this
process now, and
possibly having
election
discussion at
the Region J
meeting.
Regarding
candidates --
Region
Governor
I am willing to
run for a second
(and final)
term as RG
to complete a
succession plan
and continuing
to institute
growth within
the region. If
there are others
in your section
that are
interested in
running for
region governor
and meet the
eligibiltity
qualifications,
I suggest we
identify
these candidates
as soon as
possible to meet
the March 1
deadline to SWE
HQ.
Region
Officers (Lt.
Governor,
Secretary,
Treasurer,
Nominating
Committee Rep)
Candidates for
Lt. Governor
should also be
qualified to
lead as region
governor (per
the
bylaws)should
this person be
called to act in
the governor's
absence. The
remaining
positions prior
experience is
desired == here
is your chance
to nominate your
section
secretary to
consider being
nominated at the
region level.
These elections
are important.
My observations
of the bios from
recent
Distinguished
New Engineer,
SWE Fellow, and
Distinguished
Service Award
recipients have
served in a
regional
leadership
position in
their career.
These positions
are important to
executing the
regional SWE
strategic
plans.
Presidents -
Please contact
me regarding
serving on the
nominating
committee or
provide a
designate.
Section Reps and
Presidents --
Please discuss
open positions
for the region
officers, we
will note this
in a region
newsletter to be
out in the next
week.
Thanks,
Linda Thomas

All Region
Governors:
This is just a
reminder
regarding the
upcoming region
officer
election...
Per the current
region bylaws
template,
Article III,
Section 4.
Nomination and
Election
D. The
proposed slate
for governor
shall be
presented to the
members of the
region council
by February 1.
Additional
candidates may
be nominated by
petition,
provided that:
1. The
member is
eligible for the
position;
2. The
member has given
written consent
to being placed
on the ballot;
3. A
minimum of two
percent of the
voting members
of the region
have signed a
petition or
endorsed an
email to place
the candidate’s
name on the
ballot, with no
more than half
of the
signatures or
endorsements
having been made
from any one
professional
section or the
members at
large; and
4. The
petition,
together with
the written
consent, is
submitted to the
nominating
committee prior
to February 20.
E. The
nominating
committee shall
submit the names
of candidates
for governor to
the Society
headquarters by
March 1,
with a copy of
such report to
the current
governor.
This year region
B, D, F, H and J
will elect a new
region
governor.
If your region
wants to elect
your RG via
national ballot,
please make sure
the RG
candidates'
names and their
bios are
submitted to HQ
(Ramona Hopkins)
no later than
March 1st. It
is highly
recommended to
use the national
ballot to elect
RGs. It saves a
lot of trouble
and money for
your region.
Cheers!
