* Aspire * Advance * Achieve *

Welcome to the Central Ohio Society of Women Engineers (SWE) website!  My name is Lee Ann Schwope and I am the FY07 Central Ohio SWE President.  This is my first year as section President and I am both excited and thankful for the opportunity.  In 2003 I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Materials Science and Engineering from The Ohio State University.  Following graduation, I started working for Excera Materials Group.  I currently manage 4 engineers in both manufacturing and technology development.

In 2004 I began to be involved with our Central Ohio Section after meeting another SWE member at an OSU Women in Engineering (WIE) mentoring event.  After attending my first membership meeting, I was hooked and joined SWE the same week!  My first two years as a professional member I served on the Council of Representatives (COR).  In 2005 I took a national position as the Chair of the Environmental Scanning Focus Interest Group (ES FIG).  This has given me the opportunity to understand the vision and goals of SWE and how to utilize these resources.

I am very much looking forward to the upcoming year!  One of our largest events will be hosting the first Region G Professional Development Conference in May 2007!  We will also be hosting our 3rd annual Mother/Daughter banquet in the fall.  The event is wonderful and you may bring your daughter, mother, grandmother, or someone special to you!  You can see a complete list of our upcoming activities through the on-line calendar of events.

Our Section's main goals for this year will be to begin doing strategic planning, hosting a successful Professional Development Conference and helping to increase the number of professional engineers, specifically women!  We also hope to have an active membership and be involved in the Columbus community.  If you are interested in joining SWE or are a member and have interests or ideas in technical, social, community or educational activities feel free to let me know!  We are flexible and are willing to look into new opportunities for our Section.

I hope to see you at some of our upcoming events!  If  you have any questions or want to learn more about how to get involved this year, please feel free to e-mail me!

Sincerely –

Lee Ann Schwope
Central Ohio SWE President FY07
