Negotiating for a Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

Have you ever thought about making a change in your work-life balance?  Have you thought about working from home, changing your office hours, or working part time?  Are you afraid to ask your boss for a change?  If so, then come discuss how to create a FWA proposal, what questions you need to answer, and what you need to know about working in a non-traditional arrangement.  You will leave the session with a working draft of your FWA proposal and inside information on making it work.

This session is led by Jonna Gerken, who is currently the only part time supervisor at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT.  She has been working on a reduced schedule since 2005, when her first son was born.

About the Speaker

Jonna Gerken is currently the Manager of the Quality, Delivery, and Cost (QDC) Group in the Combustors, Augmentors & Nozzles (CAN) Module Center at Pratt & Whitney.  She oversees a team of engineers who provide leadership and mentoring in the areas of Quality Improvement, Process Certification, Cost Reduction, and Continuous Improvement.  Previously, she was Cost Reduction Manager for the CAN Module Center, where she oversaw the funding & execution of all activities impacting product cost for F119, F100 & F135 hardware.  She is also a member of the Module Center ACE Continuous Improvement Site council and the co-chair of the CAN Women’s Forum.  She has worked at Pratt since 2000, holding positions of increasing responsibility within both Operations & Engineering.  Jonna has a BS in Industrial & Management Engineering and an MBA in Technology Development, both from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
