Session
4: Life after Undergrad Panel
Description
Once you’ve
earned your degree, you’ll see that you still have many options for “what
next”. The panelists in this session
have each followed different paths after graduation … working for a small
company, graduate school, entering a rotational program at a large company,
and other variations. Come hear their
stories about why they chose the path they did and what they’ve learned along
the way. Maureen
Masiulis, Moderator Maureen
graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2003 with a dual degree in
Electrical Engineering and Computer Systems Engineering. Upon graduating from
RPI she joined General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems in Pittsfield,
Massachusetts as a member of the Engineering Leadership Program.
Maureen now leads as a cross functional team responsible for designing a new
data system intended for Ohio Class Submarines. Maureen is also a member of a
committee that provides guidance for current Engineering Leadership Program
members. Maureen received
a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the
University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2006 and is currently pursuing a
Master of Business Administration through the UMASS Amherst Part-Time Online
MBA program. When not working, Maureen enjoys participating in local
community events, SWE Regional and National Committees, playing softball,
swimming, biking, and running Panelists: Ashley Phillips
graduated in 2006 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY with a B.S.
in Industrial and Management Engineering. Following graduation, she started
in a 2 year Manufacturing Engineering Development rotation program at Pratt
and Whitney, a United Technologies Corporation, where she had four 6-month
rotations in manufacturing and quality. While working for Pratt and Whitney
she received an M.S. in Management from RPI and she is currently pursuing an
M.S. in Manufacturing Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Ashley now works as a Manufacturing Engineer in the commercial engine fan
cases group in Middletown, CT. After
graduating, Ashley officially moved from Utah to Connecticut and during this
last year she bought her first condo in Rocky Hill, CT. In her spare time,
she enjoys playing on company softball and volleyball teams, golf,
snowboarding, and baking. Since her freshman year at RPI, Ashley has been
active in SWE serving several executive roles at RPI including section
president, the 2006 Region F Conference collegiate co-chair, and is currently
the Region F Membership Coordinator and Hartford Section Secretary and
Newsletter Editor. Christiana Drayer is currently an
Industrial Engineer in IBM's Integrated Supply Chain organization in
Poughkeepsie, NY. She is also very involved in the New Hire Network at IBM.
She has been a member of SWE and also the secretary of SWE Mid-Hudson since
2008. She graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with her B.S. in
Industrial Engineering in 2005. She continued on to get a dual-title M.S.
degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Penn State in
2007. During her time as an undergraduate, Christiana completed several
internships at various companies throughout the Northeast and was involved in
several campus organizations. Melissa Ternier is an assistant
modeling engineer at Hamworthy Peabody Combustion Inc in Shelton,
Connecticut. Melissa works in Hamworthy Peabody's SmartFlow Technology
facility where she designs and analyzes combustion air flow using flow
modeling technology in the refinery, petrochemical and process
industries. Her work supports new product development and improvements for
existing applications for industrial combustion systems. Melissa graduated
from Fairfield University in 2008 with a bachelors degree in mechanical
engineering.
