2: Government Relations & Public Policy
Description
We will discuss SWE public policy goals and activities,
the SWE position papers on STEM education and Title IX, examples of recent
SWE accomplishments in public policy, a potential affirmative action position
for SWE and how to communicate with Congress. Speaker: Cathy Pieronek, J.D., is the FY09 chair of SWE's government relations and public policy
committee, and SWE Title IX lead. She has written and presented
extensively on the topic of gender equity in engineering education. She
holds a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering and her law degree from
the University of Notre Dame, and her master's degree in aerospace
engineering from UCLA. She is currently the assistant dean for academic
affairs at the University of Notre Dame College of Engineering, where she
also directs the women's engineering program and serves as faculty advisor
and counselor for the Notre Dame collegiate SWE section. |
