Welcome to Region E!

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), founded in 1950, is a nonprofit educational and service organization that helps women achieve their full potential as engineers and leaders.

SWE's Region E covers the mid-Atlantic area, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Our region encompasses thirteen professional sections and fifty-nine collegiate sections. Region E is also home to three of the first four chartered sections: Philadelphia, New York, and Baltimore-Washington as well as the first chartered collegiate section, Drexel University.

 SWE Mission

Stimulate women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity.

• Assist women in readying themselves for a return to active work after temporary retirement.

• Serve as a center of information on women in engineering.

Welcome Greater Binghamton Professional Section!

We are delighted to welcome the Greater Binghamton Professional Section (E013) to the SWE map! The board of directors chartered the section with ZIP codes beginning with 137-139 during its teleconference meeting on April 12.

Congratulations Marie Aloia!

SWE Region E would like to congratulate Marie Aloia from the New Jersey professional section on being selected as an Intel Teacher Fellow by the Society for Science and the Public (SSP). Through a generous grant from Intel Corporation, the SSP Fellows Program provides funds and training to selected U.S. science and math teachers who serve under-resourced students, to enable interested and motivated students to perform high-quality, independent scientific research. Marie was only one of ten U.S. teachers chosen to receive this honor.
