Work involves evaluating, reviewing, selecting, adapting, and modifying standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria; performing engineering design work; calculating costs; and conducting various studies. May supervise and/or assign the work of others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED Plans, schedules, coordinates, or conducts routine engineering work for projects. Directs or coordinates the work of inspectors and technicians. Conducts environmental studies. Designs and implements microprocessor and minicomputer systems, and provides assistance on, and coordinates the installation and maintenance of computer hardware. Reviews applications and approves and issues permits. Performs work relating to water or air pollution, water supply sanitation, insect vector control, and health and radiation control. Performs environmental studies. Uses computer-assisted design techniques, including interactive graphics terminals. Assists in monitoring construction, maintenance, and laboratory activities. May represent the agency in legal proceedings. May function as chief inspector on engineering projects. May assign and/or supervise the work of others. Performs related work as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Texas Professional Engineers license KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, and procedures as they apply to environmental health and safety issues; of higher mathematics; of applicable laws, regulations, and policies; of precedents in the specialty area and related specialties; and of computers and application software. Skill in applying engineering theory, techniques procedures, and higher mathematics; and in the use of computer-assisted design techniques.
