The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a National non-profit organization founded in 1950 aimed to encourage women to achieve their full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity.
The Society's national headquarters is located in Chicago, IL. SWE is a charter member of the American Association of Engineering Societies (AAES), and an affiliate of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). The Society has ten regions which include the 50 states, Puerto Rico, Saipan and Guam. Within the 10 regions there are 90 professional sections, 300 student sections and Members-At-Large. The Antelope Valley Section of SWE was chartered in 2005 making it one of the newest SWE chapters. The Antelope Valley Section includes all of Palmdale, Lancaster, Rosamond, Edwards Air Force Base, and surrounding areas.
